How did the International O&M Online Symposium
come together? 

It all began with a feeling every dedicated educator fears: 

 the heavy weight of burnout. 

I felt overwhelmed and isolated in my work, so I created the International Orientation and Mobility Online Symposium (IOMOS) as a lifeline for myself and others. I envisioned a space where we could connect with peers who truly understood our challenges, a place to share wisdom and rediscover our passion. IOMOS became that home, a digital gathering to reignite our purpose without the need to travel or miss a single day with students.

From that first spark grew our core mission:   Empowering Educators. 

The Society of Exceptional Educators is dedicated to providing the community and tools that O&M Specialists and TVIs need to help their students with visual impairments skyrocket their independence. Through online symposiums and learning programs for our educators, we build a vibrant community where professionals can share practical strategies, excel in their work, and leave the weight of burnout behind.

At the heart of this mission is a deeply personal journey.

I’m Kassy, the founder of SEE, and as a TVI/COMS with over 17 years of experience, a single mother, and a contract O&M specialist, I personally understand the feeling of being overworked. My experience is why this society is a community-first organization, where our members have a voice in major decisions, even choosing their own conference presenters.

This commitment to community is at the heart of how we plan the International Orientation and Mobility Online Symposium.

Our planning committee, made up of fellow Orientation and Mobility Specialists from all over the world, connects with our global network to invite and seek out presenters. We then gather input directly from you, our community, on the topics you want to hear about most.

The session selection is a careful and thoughtful process. With your feedback as our guide, the planning committee finalizes a lineup for each year's IOMOS that is truly built by the community, for the community.
